Before I became plant based in 2016…
- I had monthly DEBILITATING migraines. Think- laid out in bed, in as much darkness as possible. Any stream of light would make it 10x worse. I couldn’t even sleep because laying my head on the pillow was even painful. I was prescribed medication that I HATED taking because it made me feel super weak & weird after but I didn’t think there was any other solution. It didn’t even work half the time because if I didn’t take it the second I started feeling a headache come about, it would be too late.
- I had “Random” body/face rashes. I’ll never forget when I had rashes covering both my legs & were SO itchy I wanted to take a rake to them. I was teaching at the time & was chaperoning an overnight trip the next day & had to go on steroids because nothing was working (oatmeal baths, coconut oil etc). And I seriously had no idea why it was happening. I would get them in my armpits & random ones on my face too.
- My period was irregular at the time but when it made its 3x per year appearance Mydol was my BFF
- I had excess weight I couldn’t shed despite counting calories, my fitness pal, cutting carbs & bootcamp classes. It wasn’t a ton of weight (I’m only 5’1 so 5-10 pounds makes a huge difference) but I felt extremely puffy (spoiler alert it was all inflammation)
- I had IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). I wasted SO MUCH TIME just sitting on the toilet bowl TRYING to go to the bathroom. And then feeling 6 months pregnant after every meal from the bloat
It was quite the mix of symptoms that I had no clue were related to each other.
In 2014 I became vegetarian & this actually stopped my migraines which was a GOD SEND. But everything else was still happening.
Then in march of 2016 I became plant based & NO EXAGGERATION ALL OF THE ABOVE VANISHED.
My energy skyrocketed
I dropped 10 pounds of inflammation in like 2 weeks (I remember putting on salmon work pants & they were so baggy on the legs I couldn’t believe it- it happened so fast I didn’t even realize right away)
My skin became clear & glowing
My poop was regular, complete & CAME OUT EASILY
BUT at the same time I also lost my period entirely for 2 years
Why? Because I didn’t \know how to PROPERLY be plant based in a way that supports my hormones.
Once I figured it out, my period became regular, without any PMS or cramps & my fertility sky rocketed.
I got pregnant on the first try with PCOS (there are many things that went into this but this is one of them), had a seamless plant based pregnancy & at the time I’m writing this I’m 9 weeks postpartum, exclusively breastfeeding my healthy, happy, growing baby girl & feeling extremely balanced overall.
I truly believe plants have the ability to heal most ANYTHING in our body. They are medicinal at their core.
But just like anything else we have to know how to properly USE this medicine in a way that actually HEALS us
